Top row, from left to right:  Mamie Mehatabel Johnson Hutchison is shown in the middle of a group of her co-workers at McLellan's Store in Durant, MS.  Photo was made about 1912.

The next image is from a small locket which in Jan., 1984 was owned by the late Louise Brister Melton of West, MS.  Family tradition held that it was of Hockaday Brister who was among the earliest settlers of Holmes County.  However, as the image is clearly of a young man and the first Hockaday would have been a very elderly man before a photograph of this type was possible, it is probable that the subject was another family member--perhaps a grandson, also named Hockaday Brister, who died in the Civil War.  Enlargement at
The third image is of Zack W. and Mamie Mehatabel Johnson Hutchison--my grandparents.  Zack was born in 1888 and Mamie was born in 1881.  This photo was made in 1939 and was possibly the last of my grandfather who died in August, 1940.  Enlargement at

Middle row, from left to right:  My great-grandfather, John Hockaday Johnson, (born in 1851) is shown holding a child--probably a grandchild--in a photo from about 1915.  See
A 1919 shot of Miss Cecile Ramsey's first grade class in Durant, MS.  The only student that I can positively identify is my father, Clarence Edward Hutchison, born January 9th, 1914.  He is the fifth from the left in the top row.  An enlargement can be viewed at

Bottom row from left to right:  The subject is believed to be my great-great-grandfather, John McLellan born in 1820.  He was the son of William McLellan.  See

This photo is almost certainly my great-great-grandmother, Martha Mehatabel Cook McLellan. She was born in 1821 in AL, and was the daughter of Jackson Cook.  See

Another shot of Martha McLellan, this time with her son, John Horton McLellan.  The original tintype photo was made about 1870 and in 1984 was held by John's only daughter, the late Katherine Belle McLellan Robinson of Eupora, MS.  Note John's bare feet.  See
This is perhaps the last photo taken of my great-grandfather, John Hockaday Johnson.  It was taken about 1917 in Marigold, MS during a rare snowfall.  See enlargement at
